This interview (with Canon Alistair Macdonald-Radcliff) was recorded in Cairo in the context of the official Inauguration of the Anglican Province of Alexandria (which covers North Africa, Egypt and the Horn of Africa) in October 2021.

Archbishop Kondo expresses quite trenchant views in regard to the challenges facing the Anglican Communion, especially in the face of the divisive disagreements about human sexuality.

He urges that all diocesan bishops should attend the coming Lambeth Conference in 2022 and stresses the large number of Provinces (representing over half the Communion) that comprise the Global South movement, which fact can enable it to empower their role in such structures as the Anglican Consultative Council.

He also tells something of his own journey in the ministry leading up to his present role and discusses the particular challenges faced within the Province

The opening choral chant is of Psalm 46: Deus noster refugium — adapted from a setting by Martin Luther (1483-1546)”God is our hope and strength, a very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore will we not fear, though the earth be moved, and though the hills be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 Though the waters thereof rage and swell, …. 10 Be still then, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, and I will be exalted in the earth. 11        The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge”. Glory be ….

After the interview the Te Deum (Solemn tone) can be heard

“Te Deum laudámus: te Dominum confitémur.
Te ætérnum Patrem omnis terra venerátur…..”

“We praise thee, O God : we acknowledge thee to be the Lord.
All the earth doth worship thee : the Father everlasting…..”

The Choir is that of the Church of the Advent, Boston ,under the direction of Mark Dwyer and it is heard here by virtue of his kind permission together with that of the Rector The Revd Fr. Douglas Anderson.
