Thomas Cranmer: An Interview with Dr. Ashley Null

by The Editors

In the following videos, Prayer Book Society President Gavin Dunbar interviews the Rev’d Canon Dr. Ashley Null about the 1662 BCP, its background, and its significance today. This interview was filmed at the 2012 Mere Anglicanism conference in Charleston, SC on the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.

In the first segment, Dr. Null describes the Christian humanism of Erasmus, its influence on Thomas Cranmer and its importance in crafting the Book of Common Prayer.

Dr. Null explains that Christian humanism connects learning and piety, intellectual and moral renewal. The second segment discusses the Book of Common Prayer as connecting the tenets of Christian faith with a pious life through the daily practice of prayer.
