The Anglican Way and anglicanway.org are published by The Society for the Preservation of the Book of Common Prayer (the Prayer Book Society USA), 1 West Macon Street, Savannah, GA 31401. We are responsible for the personal information described here. We collect as little as we need to run the magazine, and we never sell it.
What we collect
- Your email address and sign-in records, when you create an account or sign in. Sign-in works by a one-time code sent to your email; we do not hold a password for you.
- Membership and payment details, when you subscribe or donate: your name, email, billing address, and for print subscribers your mailing address, together with what you paid and when. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
- What you send us, such as emails, letters, and article submissions.
- Basic technical information that any website receives, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested. Our hosting provider keeps this in short-lived server logs for security and to keep the site running.
- Reading statistics, only if you accept analytics cookies: Google Analytics records which pages are visited, how readers arrive, the device and browser used, and approximate location (city or country, not your exact address). We use these figures in aggregate to improve the magazine. If you decline, none of this is collected.
What we do not do
We do not run advertising, we do not use Google’s advertising features, and we do not build profiles of individual readers. Analytics runs only with your consent. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information, or share it with anyone for their own marketing.
How we use your information
- To give you access to members’ articles and show your membership status on your account page.
- To take payments, mail printed issues, and keep the financial records the law requires.
- To send messages about your account and subscription: sign-in codes, receipts, renewal reminders, and important changes. We will only send other news if you have asked for it.
- To answer your correspondence and consider your submissions.
- To protect the site and its readers from misuse.
For readers in the UK and the European Union, our legal bases are: carrying out our contract with you (your subscription), our legitimate interest in running and securing the magazine, and our legal obligations (such as tax records).
Who processes it for us
We use a small number of trusted service providers. Each handles your information only to provide its service to us:
- Clerk: account sign-in and sign-in emails.
- Stripe: payments, receipts, and the membership records that confirm your access.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Adobe Fonts: delivers one of the site’s typefaces, so your browser contacts Adobe when pages load.
- Google: Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, only if you accept analytics cookies. Google keeps our analytics data for 14 months.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while you have one, and delete it when you ask us to. Payment and donation records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, normally seven years. Server logs are kept only briefly, and analytics data for 14 months.
Your choices and rights
You can accept or decline analytics at any time with the Cookie Settings link at the bottom of every page. You can ask us at any time to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete your account. Cancelling automatic renewal is always open to you. Depending on where you live (for example in California, the UK, or the EU), you may have further rights, including to object to or restrict our use of your information, to receive a copy of it, and to complain to your data-protection authority. We will respond to any request within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms.
Children
The site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Security and where your information is stored
Our providers protect your information with industry-standard security, and all traffic to the site is encrypted. The Society and its providers are based in the United States, so your information is stored and processed there.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and its date, and tell subscribers by email about any significant change.
